Doing The Training for a Thing
Strength training has been happening weekly with my workgroup, and I'm also running 5 or 6 days a week. I’m not sure I’m friends with my treadmill anymore and I’m sure as hell not friends with all the damn ice outside. I'm craving an outdoor run somewhere the weather is kind.
The longest race we did in 2024 was the Calgary Half so it only made sense to follow that up with a 24 hr race in 2025. Lol.
Hello Jackpot my old friend.
While the venue and race are the same, Jackpot has been taken over by Aravaipa Running since we last took part in 2019. Do not fear, I have heard there are still showgirls. And Elvis.
It’s hard to realistically set goals when the slightly unhinged prospect of moving for 24 hours straight is on the horizon. More than anything I just want to do the ultra thing again. Distance should be 50+ miles. When I contracted the frankenvirus right after my 50k in 2023 I couldn't even hike for shit so it's been a huge amount of work, focus and time to get back to this point.
I was 40 the first time I did Jackpot (40 miles/12 hours in 2015) and here we are 10 years later at the threshold of another decade. I’m not sure I should be allowed to give myself birthday presents. I will be looking at my 10th ultra finish if all goes well. All of those have been in either the UK or US, in Canada (where I literally live) I am 0 for 3. Not sure what that says about me.
The race is on Feb 15th in lovely Cornerstone Park in fabulous Las Vegas. Send the good vibes!
